Wow Steve very cool. I've got the same card and I've been wanting to do the same thing, but it scares me, lol. I would be so worried about overheating it, but then again the 9800 Pro is an XT in disguise right?
Over the summer I had made an invention where I connected one end of a dryer duct to the A/C vent and the other end to a case fan that blew directly over the vid card and cpu, so even after a 100% race, temps didnt rise above 35C. But now, winter is here and the A/C is off, so I've gotta come up with a new invention. I once saw a guy that had a machine shop, and machined copper moldings for his vid card, cpu, and some other accessories, and used water cooling. The thing never got above like 20C. I've been thinking, theres a lot of cold air outside the house, and I only want to let a little bit into this box on my floor. Maybe I'll just cut a hole in my wall, I bet my parents would love that one
. Or maybe buy a mini fridge and cut a hole in the side of it, that would keep it cold, lol.
I'll have to do some research on how to make it an XT. I know it seems complicated, with making boot disks and stuff to flash the BIOS. So I ask myself, is it worth risking the video card for more speed? I say YES!

well Cart, first of all your 9800 Pro HAS to have the R360 core, , to see if it does you have to take the heat sink off and look at the core, if it's an R350 core, you CAN NOT flash it, also you have to find out what type memory the card has, mine has hynix memory, but some have samsung. actually the flash was pretty easy, if i can do it , anyone can, lol. go to http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?lo ... =92&var2=0 this is the guide i used, it shows you everything you need to know m8
read it VERY carefully

This morning's AKA 1:30Am purchase. I decided to order one of these cases. It has 2 120mm fans front and rear with adjustable fan speeds and all that stuff. Next I need to order a antec PS to go with it. Did I mention I'm tired of this thing locking up?
Won't have it for this weekends race though.

This is for letting you know why i was completely surprise of your overheating computer problem... Since i have a PC only for gaming. The computer that i usualy use are already built to resist those problem, so dont even ask me a name of a graphic card...i dont know...lol
If you woud have that kind of computer, you woud understand why im so lost in your conversation...

Hey thanks Steve, I'm gonna give it a try real soon, I just want to make sure I really know what I'm doing. I've got a question, do you have temp probes on the video card? If so, what temperature are you running now that you have an XT? Cooling shouldn't be a problem for me, I'm just wondering what kind of temps were talking about. I saw in the article the guy was running at 70C with the stock cooler, and 60C with the better cooler. I've got the Thermaltake Giant III cooler, so it better keep this baby cool!

right now at idle, i'm at 60c core, and 40c board temp, according to ATI tool, it does run a bit hot, but 9800's are known to run hot, but i think i might need to reseat my Arctic Cooling VGA silencer, actually i'm thinking of buying the one made specifically for the 9800 256 mb pro's and Xt's. or i might do a lil searching around and see if i can find one thats a bit better at cooling, it is silent, but i don't mind a little noise if i know my cards runnin' cooool
Also Cart, even if you do flash it, and it seems to be running hot, you can always flash the Pro bios back in

Well at the moment I'm at 40C cpu and 40C core video card. I'm a bit confused though. I did a 3d Mark 2001 test and scored a 14266, and then did a 3d Mark 03 test and scored 5610. I guesss my cpu needs some updating. Hey, Christmass is just around the corner, maybe Santa will leave me a new cpu, lol. Any suggestions? At the moment I've got a P4 2.6Ghz. Also, would I need to replace the motherboard if I eventually buy a new cpu?

I just went to newegg quick and saw this:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductde ... 463&DEPA=1
I would have to get a new motherboard in order to transfer from Pentium to AMD correct? I dont mind spending the money if its worth it, because it looks like this 64 bit technology is the cool new thing to have, and I wanna be cool

Would this be a good motherboard to pair the AMD with?
