Disconnects, network problems, bugs - I NEED HELP!

After a short discussion about F1 2002 network issues on the Team Redline forums (
http://www.teamredline.co.uk/forums/ind ... readid=535) I have decided that it is worth a little effort to try something out.
We all know how F1 2002 suffers from bad network code. Some of us also know that F1 2002 behaves much better in a LAN environment (not perfect, but a lot better than over the Internet at least). The difference is that the LAN will have lower latency and fewer dropped packets. What if we could take away one of those disadvantages? If everyone connects to the server using VPN we would get lower packet loss, if any at all. Since VPN encapsulates data in TCP packets we would of course increase the bandwidth usage a bit, and we would also risk getting strange latency related errors. But, I think it is worth exploring since we could possibly get a much better racing experience.
All it takes is a bit of server configuration on my end and for all of you to set up a VPN connection. Don't worry though, I'll post a guide with pictures on how to do it. Most people should be able to get it going in under 5 minutes.
Who here would be willing to try this? I'd love to get 22 cars on the grid!

At least it's worth trying!
I have already configured my server (only took 15 minutes), so now I only need to write the guide and decide on a time to test it.

Information on how to set up a VPN connection on Windows XP and 2000 is now online:
http://daniel.zapto.org/VPN/
I will try to do the guide for Win9x later today, but I have no Win9x computer around so I will have to find an old guide I wrote and cut-and-paste from it. If someone with Win9x is proficient in setting up VPN maybe you could make a page and send it to me. I'll host it...
Once you are connected you can try to connect to a game in F1 2002 at IP number 192.168.1.221. My server will be up and down over the next day or so, so don't panic if you cannot find a server. Also, the Internet connection is being used for other things right now (among them is running this forum), so don't be alarmed if you get a high ping for the server.

Wow Daniel!!

A little update from tobber.
About the erroes before it was solved by uninstall netBEUI-protokol and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS.
also i did not have QOS packet scheduler installed
So for now i can connect but i cant ping your ip 192.168.1.221 nothing gets thru I guess you have not made a server or something like that.
Also from the game when i try to connect by your ip it cant find anything.
Im looking forward try again later.
tobber over and out!!!!!!!!!!
