Echoshill - Checking In

Post by Echoshill »

Howdy NAR-ers!

It has been a very long time since we last chatted, some of the newer guys probably do not even remember me, but I never forget you guys.

My back still sucks, but less than it sucked before, and I have begun sim racing again. I try to limit myself to races that are about an hour or so and I am, sincerely, having a good time with that.

I am still working as director of engineering and vehicle development for my company and am now in my second full season with a Daytona Prototype team. What an eye opener that has been. I honestly thought I new about setting up cars until I got with those guys.

Last we spoke (typed), I promised (Bilbo, Flow and Steve) that I would make it out for a practice and that has not happened, yet. But I am downloading the mod now and if I can figure out this anti-cheat thing-a-ma-bob and find the dog gone tracks...I may step out with you guys this weekend just for some fun. One of you guys care to PM me with some insight, server, PWD (still the same?) that would be awesome.

Take care all and God bless.

Hello Echoshill,
Long time to see
Glad you are back around and are doing better. It is great your job is working out now if you can just give us some great setup info we would like you even more
So don't be a stranger and so secretive. :D

Here you can find the mod and track
I am not sure if the mod is up to date there is a engine up date and a RFM update for it.

The track well there is a small update for it It is a terrain update that is also available you can find both here.

http://forumserver.zapto.org/NAR/viewtopic.php?t=2318

The practice servers are not Passworded so you do not have a problem there.

Relay is pretty straight forward you can download it here
http://relay.dynip.com/
Cu soon on track

Great to hear from you hitman.

No secretes here guys. As for the set up help, one thing that I have found is that there is very little that translates from setting up a real car to a sim car except for the relative effect of changes. More specifically, even if actually set up data was available for a particular type of car for said track, the outcome would most likely be quite different from actually. This is not a shot at a mod or platform, it is just that no commercially available physics engine is that good. I am probably restating the obvious. I am good for that.

I see a version 1.6a for the mod at rF central. Do I really just want the 1.6 version?

Yes Pat, good to be back and about. I hope things are good for you and yours on the home front.

I have been racing again (twice per week) for about the last 6 months. It is good fun and I missed it for sure. Still not nearly as fast as you though......

I am going to try to install the mod here today (fingers crossed) and run some install laps. It looks like I also have another file or two to drop here and there. Man, you all have really come a long way since the 6 driver NA grids and 134 separate downloads and installs I had to go through.

Maybe I can get a job with one of you all as a test driver

Look forward to hearing from all of you checking in.

LMAO - Oh geez...I had forgotten all about that....LOL

That was more or less my warning to everyone to get out of the way. But, as best as I can recall, I finished every race. Well, there was one race my first season where Bilbo clobbered me on lap 2. Then on my way back to the pit I ran in to some invisible wall and car was toast. I was so darn slow, I even asked Bilbo if he was certain my car had the physics mod performed to it. They were really fun times.
EDIT BY Mark --- Just to clarify. This was just a racing deal. No fault of Bilbo. Wrong place wrong time.

To anyone new to NAR that is reading this thread....and please take my words to heart.
With NAR, you are racing with some of the cleanest, most talented sim racers out there. People who are completely dedicated to the mastery of their craft and the purveyance of friendship and camaraderie. Even if NAR is not your final stop, if you can even finish races with these guys, you will be very successful elsewhere. This is an amazing training ground and I owe so much of what I am as a sim racer and race engineer to NAR. And I mean that.

So, if the admins are ok with it and team Ferrari is in agreement, I would really enjoy the chance to run laps for you guys. It would really mean a lot to me to just be a small part of NAR again. If not team red, I will gladly help anyone who is willing to let me practice for them. But I can only, in good conscience, help one team.

The only concern I have is that my (real) race calender has got to come first. Fortunately Grand Am is not that demanding of a schedule.

Please PM me with details should you decide to let me help. Otherwise, I am sure I will catch you guys out and about.

I couldn't agree more Echo.

I have learned so much from these guys and they are truely the nicest bunch I have ever met.
ALL of these guys are willing to help in any way they can to teach you the basics of NO AIDS RACING and help with your setups at any given time.
I am proud to be involved with this FANTASTIC league. :)

Well some things don't change. LOL

A guy try's to say something nice and before you know it someone thinks he wants to have a sleep over and tickle fight.

Is that $5 Canadian, or USD?
