I'm not an expert on software firewalls as I was an early adopter of the "home router" devices (back when they were not common nor sold at every street corner).

You can have a look at this site:
http://firewalling.com/personalfirewall ... armPro.htm

For more general info or to know which ports to open for a specific game (F1C is not listed but many others are), especially if you're using a router/hardware firewall:
http://www.portforward.com

Hope this helps.

Hello F1Motion
I do not have Zone Alarm
But I like to help and I was a little intrustead so I did some well a little checking.

I know there has to be away but accorcing to them you do not have port controll on the free version of Zone alarm

This is what they have to say
7. How do I block or unblock specific ports?

All paid versions of ZoneAlarm provide complete flexibility for customization in the "Expert Rules" tab of the Firewall panel. This feature is not available in the free ZoneAlarm. Using the Expert Rules form, you can block or unblock specific ports, sources, or destinations. Additionally, you can get help from our "Expert Rules" section in the Zone Labs User Forum. Our community of experienced users is more than happy to help out a new ZoneAlarm user.

I looked at it some more via some pics
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/s ... zasupp_i#7
From what I see
Open ZA
Click on Program controll
Find F1C program and I think you right click on it and click on allow access.
It should work if not you can do one or two things buy AZ and have full controll or shut down AZ when you wish to run F1 C although by doing the 2nd option you are open and could get a virus.
Although for my self when I am racing I shut mine down as to get better game play and have not had a attack of any kind durring play.

How ever I would recomend buying it if the free version is working.
also do's this have virus protection also.

Good luck

yo john, if you're using the free version of Zone Alarm, it's very simple, just go to the main window in Zone Alarm, then click the "program control" tab, then on top right you'll see "main and programs" click programs, then below you'll see a tab that says "add" click that, and browse to the folder where F1C is installed, fine the "F1Challenge 99-02.exe file", and click it, then click "open" and it will then be added to the program list, go the the far right where it says "server" right click that, and click "allow" then you should be able to host with no problems here's a screenie of what i'm talking about
