A Alert to all

Post by Ruben Miranda »

Hello Guys
Everytime I go to the Find the Limit forum.
My Virus protection alerts that I have a Trohan horse in stalled.

MHTMLRedir exploit
Also
Downloader trojan
also
Trojan phel

It is putting the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
You have to Manuely remove a part of this file.

So if you go there you might want to check out your comp.
I myself will not be back LOL

I haven't been to FTL in like six months so I guess that counts me out eh?
Remember people.Windows based operating systems have over 700,000 viruses that you have to deal with.Mac users don't have this problem.
Mcafee usually catches this crap including spyware. So far so good.Nortons just sux in my opinion.Thats my lesson today on viruses.
Keep away from FTL would be my next suggestion.
I also stay away from the GTR hotlaps page as well as I don't trust anybody anymore.Surfing is getting more dangerous everyday m8's.Watch your backs.

Oh and by the way hitman. You can set your browser to clear the temporary internet files every time you exit the browser. It is somewhere in the advanced options i believe.I set my browser cache to its minimum which is 1 megabyte...

People, make sure you keep your OS updated to the latest security patches every month. There are easy ways around the Windows Update checks too, in case you haven't paid the M$ tax, so no good reasons to have these vulnerabilities open...

I visit FTL almost daily (when it's working) and have not caught anything...

Carrera: there are viruses on the Mac too, just to a much lower scale (mostly due to an understandable lack of interest from script kiddies).

all the nastys (So Far) that these Asshole's keep creating.

Thanks for the tempory file anwser good call I set it up now. 8)

my antivir tells me when I join ftl forum that there is something and then I press delete and overwrite it and I do not think that there left any thing ... I also checked my pc for files that are named like the virus and there did nothing left at all.

... have fun!

Get rid of it

Post by Ruben Miranda »

Hello Flow
Go to your tempory internet folder and delete all of it contents and you should be ok.

You can also in IE 6
Open IE at the top of your tool bar
Click tools, Scroll down and open Internet Options
Inside internet options Under the Genral tap you will see
Delete Cokies and Delete files click delete files this should delete the Trojan.
Also open your Recycle bin and empty that just to make sure.
If your virus protection is not catching this I would get a update and not visit FTL untill the mater is fixed.

i thnks that as soon as i go on my telemetry that is upgrade from ftl, the trojan virus comes back, so is it the problem? Saving a file in ftl telemetry liike a lap is creating a document that is waiking up the antivirus? Maybe somthing is around that.

Guys,

Could you give me some details of what you are experiencing ?

I have cleared out the old version of phpbb (2.0.11), and updated to the latest version. (2.0.17).

I need to work out if the forum software is the problem, or whether the site itself was compromised.

... EDIT ... I think I've found the problem. Seems someone inserted something into the forum descriptors for the F1-Challenge and F1-2002 forums ... which when opened, added some HTML to the page to activate a counter or other object. I assume this was using an exploit in the phpbb version I was using.

I've gone back to database level to get rid of this, and I'm pretty sure it's now gone. Also having upgraded to the latest version, the problem shouldn't come re-occur, but I would like for someone to check please.

Could those who were experiencing problems (and able to detect it) please return to see if the problem is still there.

Thanks,

-Simon

PS. Apologies for letting the site run by itself for the last few months, but my life has been way to busy to be able to keep all this stuff up to date. I was hoping to update to RH2004v1.5 but really don't have the time available to do it... I am willing to let someone to help me out on it though.

Hello Siphi
I just went to FTL and loged in no problems My Virus pro did not detect anything and I also check the temp folder that the virus was going in to and I see no sign of it. :D

Good job

I knew you are gone and very busy during the racing season as you stated when you restarted FTL.
But glad you got it fixed.
