Holy smokes Steve you are now a regular computer whiz..whuuu huuuu...
If you didn't have that many problems you should consider yourself"da man".I went down to Kamloops(no not fruitloops) this weekend and purchased a geforce 6800 gt as well as a tower already built for my buddy who used to race f1 with me.Massive problems installing the gt because of its size. Then we had major problems wiping out the machine and installing windows xp.Finally we found out the already built machine had a tape on heat paste...not real heat paste and the temperature climbed way too high...Never trust an already built machine to be built properly. We ripped it all apart and redid it.Now..thank god...it runs great...I haven't decided yet on the ati x800 xt or the 6800 gt for my next card yet.I do know one thing though.Pci express is pointless till they make games that require more bandwidth. That may not be for a few years yet.It takes quite awhile to make a good game.
Anyway...congrats Steve on getting it running so easily...

thanks Carrera, i was SOOOOOO happy when it fired up first try, lol, and only had to reset cmos once when overclocking, overclocking A64's is different than regular athlons, hard to explain, but thanks to the guru's at http://www.extremeoverclocking.com. i attained over 500 mhz overclock rather easily , went from 1.8 ghz stock to 2.34 ghz no problem if you decide to go A64, don't waste big money on the high end cpu's the 3000+ and 3200+ will easily overclock to those high priced cpu's specs. Only thing is, you need really good memory to get the mega overclocks these guys get

Hey guys whats the progression of the radeon cards? Are the X** models newer than the 9800 series? I'm going to have to do some upgrades soon. Granted my radeon is a 7000 series. I was thinking a cheap 9800 would be a big step up from what I've got.

the x series is the newest Aaron, X800 XT's being the best so far, but they are WAY more expensive than a 9800 pro, lol the XT's are about 450-500 bucks, or more, depending on what ya get Don't overlook Nvidia 6800 gt's thats what i have now, and it's pretty damn nice, and mine cost 388 from new egg. And yeah, a 9800 pro would be a HUGE step up from a 7000 series as long as the rest of your system is decent

I just picked up a 9700 pro for a little over $100. That should hold me over for now. I really didn't want to spend $200 now that these pci-express cards are out. I'm not sure what to do cpu wise. I can either keep with the amd 2500 non barton for a while or get a 3000+. That as high as I can go on this motherboard. Or go with a 754 socket 64 bit system but then I'd have to buy new ddr memory. One thing at a time I guess.

yo Aaron, if you do go 64 bit, make sure to get a socket 939, they are much better than the 754's m8. 939's support dual channel memory, 754's do not

i bought the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Nforce 3, it is supposed to be the best 939 board for AGP cards, if you are going to go PCI express the DFI N4 Ultra is supposed to be the best you can get. Since i JUST bought a 6800 GT AGP card, i wasn't about to go PCI express, lol

Lately I've been having problems burning dvd at anything other than the lowest setting. The hard drive wasn't keeping up lik it was before. I finally figured out it was running in pio mode. I reset it and its back to normal for now. I think that happens when it has to many errors or something. I wonder if I should replace the cable? I bought one of those fancy $10-15 Antec cables when I thought I was having burner problems. I guess I could get one for the hard drive as well. What do you guys think?

When it seems like things are slowing down. Probably around once a month at best. But I got a blockbuster online last month so I've been making use of the dvd burner lately. So the hard drive is usually busy.

Well here's a new problem. My computer has been running all day. I just locked up on me and after letting it sit for 10 minutes I'm getting these line artifacts popping up here and there on the screen. The card wasn't under any real load. Is this card already ruined?

If you're not overclocking anything and have good fresh airflow in your case, then it looks like the card is going...
