sudden problem with 2005 season
Yo Bilbo, all of a sudden, when i go to enter a multiplayer game for NAR, i am getting a strange screen when i have to choose a "driver" there are about 15 icons, and when i choose "NAR Steve" and click accept, the game crashes to desktop, i tried uninstalling, made sure to chane my driver to rh03 BEFORE the uninstall, then reinstalled, and still get the same thing.. Could it be that the server is NOT for the 2005 mod?, it says "NAR 100 mbit server" EDIT, hehe, it says the track is 2004, not NAR 2005 !! { the server that is }
I may be slow, but at least I'm consistantly slow !
I have never tried to join a server that was not running the NAR2005 mod while using a NAR2005 driver, so it probably doesn't work and it's probably the same for pretty much all mods that add content to F1C (rather than just replacing already existing files likes textures, etc.) The way F1C deals with any kind of unexpected situations, I would expect your game, the server or both to crash, so don't do that!
I've always found the fact that the game even displays servers incompatible with your game to be quite regrettable (to say it politely). It would have been SO easy to implement AT LEAST a season GDB check....
The only thing I can do about that is to clearly identify those servers that use the mod and that's what I did by renaming all tracks with the "NAR2005" prefix. If it doesn't say "NAR2005 <sometrack>", then that server is NOT running the mod and just don't try to join while using the NAR2005 season. If anybody change their mod files (changes not recommended by the author, i.e. me) or add tracks to the NAR2005 season, they will have to support themselves if ANYTHING happens because I definitely won't support that after all the work required to make this year's mod. Preventive advice to anybody concerned: Don't even ask or I'll probably get quite mad when I WILL find out...
One more thing, Steve. Switching your driver to RH03 is not much better than leaving it to NAR2005 as RH03 is a mod too, so if you had tried to start the game before having reinstalled RH03, it would have crashed before showing you the main menu, same as with the NAR2005 mod. The only safe thing to do (unless you plan to reinstall all your mods before even starting the game up, in which case you do not need to switch your driver around anyways) is to set your active driver to a stock season ('99-'02), team, driver and track. That's if you copy your PLR file or Save directory, otherwise none of this is required if you uninstall, reinstall and just use the newly reinstalled stuff (with nothing AT ALL copied from an old installation).
