V-Card 6800 Ultra

Post by Ruben Miranda »

Hello Steve and anybody with info :D

:?: For Steve What are the measurements of your card I want to see if it will fit my case. :D I am looking into the 6800 Ultra so they should be the same size.

It is time I upgrade my V-Card My T1 4600 although it still works very well
and I am pleased with it I am going to put this one in a anther comp and upgrade my Gamer.

I am looking at this card
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductde ... 196&DEPA=1
Has anyone heard of this Manufacture :?:

Do's this mean I need 2 power supplys in my comp :?:
A minimum 350W system power supply, but 480W is highly recommanded.
An AGP 8X/4X compliant motherboard.
Two hard disk drive power dongles off of separate power supply cable bundles (smaller floppy disk drive connector is not sufficient).
Or do's it mean same power supply diffrent connectors. In other words I can not double up on one lead.

Here is a link of the cards they have and the price diffrences.
The only thing I see diffrent beside the name is that some are bundled with Games or VGA Adaptors. If you can take a look I would apprceate it.

Thanks in advance

if you get the ultra you need a very powerful power supply, not necessarily high watts, but you need to have at least 18 amps on the 12 volt rails, and the Ultra requires 2 connectors for the card, if i was you Hitman, i'd go with the GT, it is more than powerful enough, and only requires one connector, plus it's $100.00 LESS than the ultra . I did notice that the 6800's are pretty long cards, mine was about an inch longer than my 9800 Pro But i have a big case, so it wasn't a problem fitting it in there. I've heard a lot of good reviews on the EVGA, BFG , and PNY 6800's

yeah probably 480 watts would do it.
i have had problems with my ultra like playing games like doom3, far cry ,.and other games. My screens crashed to black and colourful dots.
But after using nvida tuner by turning side band and fast writes, and don't forget to set the core clock same as the 2d and 3d. Well i tried these and worked cool. but dunno if this helps for u .
oh and don't add a pci slot right below the agp slot.

Hello Guys
I got my 6800 gt yesterday and got it installed. Everything went well :D
I am happy with the card so far still have to do some tweaking. With everything set on full I am getting 80+FPS and thats not bad. And the game just looks fantastic & great detail.

A couple of ?
1. what setting are you useing
2. Any links/Articles on flashing
3. any cations I should know about if I decide to flash.

Thanks Hitman

There is no reason to flash that card Hitman, it is plenty fast as it is, the Ultra is just a tiny bit faster, and if you do flash it, and it screws up, your warranty will be no good, lol here's a link to a good site that has a lot of people that know what they're talking about. They have helped me with several issues with my system http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/f ... .php?f=116

so far so good Hitman !!! had it up and running for over an hour, and all seems well, hehe. I also bought a new power supply, Ultra X Connect 500 watt , supposed to be damn good. I can run a dedicated power line straight to the card with it. Here's a screenshot with circuit detail, image quality, cars all set to full detail. Check the fps !!

Hello Steve
Nice glad you got it done.
WOW!!! How in the hell are you getting those frame rates.
I am nowhere near that.

What and how are you setting it up.

I have a server up at the moment at least for a little longer.

i don't know if this will help you, but here are my global driver settings, i use the same in the "F1C profile" i set up through the drivers. My in game settings are Full on Car, Circuit, Image, and Other vehicles, i have special effects set to medium, shadows to medium < shadows are a big factor in FPS from what i hear> i usually set them to low, but with this card it can handle medium, vehicle lighting is set to low, and in your PLR file, set max visible vehicles to 10. or less, since we only have about 10 guys in the NA division at the moment.

how much memory do you have in your system m8? that can make a difference too, i have a gig of DDR 400 running in dual channel mode

My Comp Info

Post by Ruben Miranda »

Hello Steve
Thanks for taking the time

Comp
P4 3.6 G
2 hard drives 40G Master 80G Slave
Memory 1 G
Nivida V-Card 6800GT

I also use the Global settings and drivers
I was letting the application controll the Antialiasing setting but today I tried 4x and my framerates went up about 5 FPS (was running about 60 to 65 FPS) So at 4X it was at 70 75 FPS but the quality was a little blurry around the edges (Example The edge of the tires looked ragged). So I changed it to 8xS and the FPS went up to 85 fps never dropping below 80 fps I even had a 90 fps but the image quality is so good even the trees and things around the track came to life the ragged edges and great color.
I will try to lower some of the settings in F1C, I khew about the shawdows stuff just was not thinking  ...
I will do somemore testing see if I can at least get closer to a 100 fps although this card is very smooth just like it is  I will have to do a 3dmark just to see

Thanks for the help

Hitman, you can also set custom profiles for each game you have, Go to "performance and quality settings" and then click where the arrow is pointing in the screenshot. then you can browse to the .exe file from whatever game you want to make a profile for, and after you set the profile, it will use those settings whenever you play that game. Also included a screenshot of the profile i set for F1C
