Damn Steve you must have mountains of money, seems like youve got a new card every 3-6 months, LOL. That is a truly impressive score though, sure beats my 6500.

well, all's not well in New Video card land, lol, i went and installed my ATI in my old computer, and when i came back to this one, i had a blank screen, rebooted, and instantly all kinds of strange colors, couldn't see anything, tried going into safe mode, and couldn't see that either, so now i have my trusty old TI4200 in here, and will be RMA ing the 6800

Actually Steve I was looking at the radeon x800 xt's last night and they are quite reasonable in price now.I am getting bored of the 2 9800's already and want more POWER...LOL...I am against the 6800's as they require a lot of power to run and I would like to just switch cards and not have driver problems...of course it could be ironed out but I like the catalyst 4.12 suite as they really go with far cry and half life well...Doom3..as far as i'm concered sux do to too much darkness compared to half life 2 or far cry and with the new jurassic park mod for far cry .I am sold on the game even though I bought it six months ago.
I am impressed with the 6800 ultras power though.quite impressive frame rates in benchmarks according to tom's hardware guide. So in conclusion...I say we get back into formula 1 and start racin again..hehehe...oh ya...and Steve you must have an understanding wife to spend that much money on a piece of hardware for that computer ..LOL...

hahaha dudes, i do NOT have a wife, if i did i certainly wouldn't be buying new video cards every 6 months !!! And i have a GT not an ultra, only requires one molex connector. I would have liked to stick with ATI, but the 6800 GT blows away the X800 Pro, and the X800XT is way too expensive for my blood. I got the GT for $388 US from Newegg.com

ok you win Steve...388 bucks is just right to get a kickass card...oh and I hope you are smart like me and do not live with a woman...I learned that years ago.My girlfriend now lives in her own house and i don't let her near my apartment. This way I get to keep all my money and spend it on my 2 kids. And yes I am still seeing Spatula girl once in a while..LOL...when i can stand her...Lately though the temp has been -30 or so so I don't travel out to often...I have been watching alot of movies with my kids lately...downloading them from the internet before they are even out on dvd..gotta love that eh...high speed rocks....

yo steve,
i think u should try disabling the side band addressing and fast writes cuz they cauze wierd things while playing games. U need to install the riva tuner to disable it.

I had a Simerlar prob

Post by Ruben Miranda »

Hello Steve
I had this happen tp me a while back, Well it at least sounds simerlar.
When I put in my new Vid card I inadvertanly Pulled/Lossened a card that as right beside it and I think they where touching or it was slightly pulled away from the PCI slot. And when it the comp boot it up it would give me a blank screen.

The cards now a days are so big it can be touching or lose and not very easy to notice.
Another thing if you havint already check your monitor on another comp if you have one could be it went or can not handle the frame rate or something of that nature.

Just something to think about and check.

I know it is a headake you can not even check the bios for the error log to see what is going on since you can not see the screen.

Good luck

I made sure of all of that Hitman, tried re seating the card, switched power cables, the whole deal, lol, this weekend i'll try putting it in my other machine and see what happens. If it does the same thing, i'll get a RA from newegg, and hopefully the next one will rock !!

Shit Steve.I have had this problem before and had to use another hard drive..reload windows...then format my other drive with the old windows .It worked then.I have a feeling it is not your card that is screwed up.My assumption would be that it is trying to use the same irq used by another card in your pci slot or perhaps sound(onboard?)or network(onboard?).If that is not the case then i would look at it trying to share another memory address already used by another device. In my case...I went from ati to nvidia and i got no screen...I was thrilled because i love a challenge(ok so i'm lying). As someone mentioned before.maybe put in your old card and turn off fast writes.I always turn mine off now and have no problems switching cards. If fast writes is on and your card won't use it.your card will actually slow down. Not good for the hard core gamer...

Hey guys what exactly is fast writes? I think mine is set to "on" by default, and since I don't know what it is I haven't touched it. Will it actually make the card faster if its off?

Thanks

fast writes are off, and the vid card has it's own IRQ, i really think the card is screwed, especially since it DID work for a little while. I'm going to try it in my other system this weekend just to make sure
