off-season testing times!!!

Post by Erick »

anybody willing to give any progress? since F1 racing is relatively new to me, I have to practice alot more than some people, I am starting to figure some stuff out. Sorry, I'm that guys who is obsessed with times, and sectors and all of that crap, but i can't help it, I love racing. I love time(that's very vague). ok, here some times of my offseason......

Australia: 1:27.6

Brazil: 1:11.0

Imola: 1:20.8

France(2002 ver.) 1:11.9

Nurburg: 1:35.3

Germany: 1:14.6

Yo Erick..
I thought i would direct you to akovcr....yes....akovcr..I don't know if you use it already...you load in a .vcr file from f1 challenge and it gives you sector times for every lap ..best laps...everything you need to analyze where your making up time or losing it..I had it sent to me so I am not sure where to get it....type it in your search engine maybe??
anyway it helps to see where you are losing time..then you can work on the seperate sectors ....thanx...

I'll post some of my times. Please don't laugh...

I am not new to F1 but I've been "away" from it for a few years and came back with F1C a couple of months ago. I actually started driving with no aids about 3 weeks ago now, so these times will surely improve over time. At this point, now that I'm getting "the feel" of no aids racing I want to tour all the tracks and make sure I can drive consistently everywhere even if I only do "average" times ("average" for here is probably quite fast at some other places) ;) The time for true performance testing at specific will come after that tour in preparation for the next season, which I will hopefully be part of.

Here are my (no aids) times so far (more to come):

Suzuka 2002 - 1:35.3
Montreal 2002 - 1:19.0
" 2003 - 1:19.4 (only ~10 laps)
Monza 2003 - 1:25.1

akoVCR is really a great tool (easy to find once you know its actual name). It also hilighted a problem I have with the game. Am I the only one who is "accused" of cutting the Eastern Hairpin (opposite end of the track from Senna) at Montreal (2002 or 2003rh, no diff.) in either the F1C Telemetry or akoVCR? In-game and in the replays I just barely touch the inside red & white strip but both the telemetry and akoVCR show me shortcutting the hairpin by about 50ft!!! (It's hard to judge the scale but it's really shown as a "gross" shortcut). It sounds like a bad DAT file to me but I'd like to know if others have this problem too before I re-install...

Hey Bilbo...are you talking online replays or one player replays.
Get used to replays showing you doing bad stuff even though in your vision it looks like you are doing everything right.I have never had that problem with one player but had it many times online.Germany is a good example..
In my screen and replay it looked like i ran a clean race..In the servers replay it looked like i wasn't even on the track the majority of the time and hit people blatantly.Unfortunately Bilbo...there are some people in Nar who do not have a good connection...this and 20 people racing(splitting up the bandwidth)sometimes causes all sorts of problems. The most important thing to watch though Bilbo.Make sure you save your replays as your alibi is based on it.There were a few races like that last year but the end races were much better thanx to Dan doing some testing and posting a message on how to get the most out of your conection.
Just remember also that the netcode is based on proximity...therefore a whole bunch of cars close together is where you need the most bandwidth.
That may be where the replays screw up the most or when your real close to someone...

Thanks for the tips Carrera, but that's not my problem. :(

It's happening in single-player and only in the telemetry screen and akoVCR (which uses the same files as the telemetry application, I believe). I have re-installed twice (different directories), used different driver names, looked at Window's registry for anything left over and I still have the problem.

I have noticed something interesting though: the telemetry data for Montreal 2002 definitely doesn't match the "in-game" track. It's based on OLD, pre-2002, data. As proof, look at the pit exit. Before 2002, the pits exited at the end of the pit straight, before turn 1. In 2002, the pit exit was moved to join the track in the middle of Senna Curve. You can see the difference in the track's "loading" pictures for 2001 & 2002 (look in the upper right part of the track). I think it was at that time too that they added asphalt in the safety zone outside of the Eastern Hairpin, maybe shortening the track a bit in the process if they moved the hairpin a bit "closer". The site occupies the entire Ile Notre-Dame, so they don't have any room for expansion/modifications on the outside of the track...

When racing or watching a replay, the game uses "real" 2002 data but the telemetry is applying/comparing this data to an old, pre-2002, track, which would explain what I'm seeing. The DAT files do not seem to be present on the CD so I guess they're generated/unpacked at installation-time from some other files (so it's maybe just an installation script bug/typo/whatever).

If the above is not clear, just tell me and I'll try to post some pictures to illustrate my point.

*** Help me ***

If anyone could take the time to drive a couple of laps of 2002 Montreal (Canada) then go to the telemetry screen, click on "check lap" and tell me if it complains about "track cutting" or "invalid lap" (big X over the lap time instead of a check mark besides it), I would really appreciate! Help me prove I'm not seeing things!

Well Bilbo...
I tried a couple of laps and checked the lap in the telemetry....no problems...it must be your game that screwed up..Did you buy the game??or get it from somebody??

Oh and Reverend smokey....I don't mean to sound rude but I did catch alot of flack for that one...and me being not happy about it just made me like....normal...which carrera is not normally...normally I am a nutcase with uhmmm...an imaginative mind??..ya thats it...What happened in Germany never happened again...and for sure I am very happy about the division 1 lineup this year...some of the worlds best for sure are driving in this division this year...even div 2 have some very fast drivers...so don't get me wrong...the bitchin stops here :D :D :D
and the drivin starts...I have had some problems with etcc lately...doesn't want to load tracks properly ...just thought i'd throw that in because i tried to race with NAR Steve and it wouldn't load laguna for me properly...but it did before...I will just kick my machine before joining next time..I will feel better even if it doesn't work..LOL....
now ...I gotta put on those c-65 rocket engines on my car before season starts...I don't want sirsmokealot to chew up my BAR Honda and spit it out this year(ptooooie)...I get a special aero package in germany this year...rubber wings and baby buggy bumpers
just in case....and no i refuse to race in Japan...I don't have the motivation   LOL....

Thanks again, Carrera.

I am using a store-bought original, not used or pirated. I also happen to have a version "from somebody" which I will now have to try for comparison purpose. I would really be p!ssed off if it worked better than the original!

I hate it because Montreal is my favorite track (by virtue of being close to where I live and having been there often (in person)).

Yep, Big hurrays for saving the Canadian GP but at the same time, I can't help feeling a bit sad for for the loss of the France GP. Can't have everything, I guess...

I tried to re-install F1C using the CD from a friend called Deviance  , don't know if it's the same as your. I still have exactly the same problem though. I have made a picture clearly illustrating what I have.

I can't believe I'm the only one on this planet with this problem!

(Sorry about the size)
