Hello Brad
When it post do's it give anyindecation of a faliure like a beep or something.
It do's not sound like a PSU to me.
If it is shuting down right after I would think it is still getting hot.
Are all your fans working
Specificly the CPU fan are you sure you put in artic cool on the cpu chip.
I asked a good friend of mine who is a Comp Guru and he said it is rare (Not that it do's not happen) that a PSU would push out so much juice that would make your comp/chip get hot. They ushully ethier just quit or they slowly lose power.
If it is not putting out enough power you can try to disconnect a couple of things Cdrom a couple of case fans. Of better yet borrow a CPU from someone and test it that way.

Xzwins changed is graphic card for a better one few month ago, and hes had game closing, but not shure if his computer was closing. His power supply was not enough powerfull, his problem went away when he change it.
Well Brad,
If the computer overheats it will shut down.If the power supply is working too hard it will shut down.I fixed a computer with a 2.8 ghz pentium and it was doing the same thing. We changed the power supply and it worked. One word of warning though.I don't know if you can format that thing or if you have a restore disk or what..I would format it as some viruses actually use the remote windows shut down command. It might just be windows doing it.

Speaking about this, wasn't there a virus 1-2 years ago that shut the computer down after 60 seconds? You may want to time it to see if it shuts down at a consistent time interval or not...
thanks for the input everyone. i think we can rule out a virus, it will do this in bios before any software has been loaded. heres exactly what happens. turn computer on, everthing starts, all fans(including cpu and psu fans) then regardless if i go into bios and just sit there, or actually start windows, the machine runs normal then just shuts down all the sudden. when i say shutdown, shutdown like power cord was unplugged. would not running a power supply designed for atx v2.2 create problems? i have an sli capable board, and my psu is not only not sli ready, but i had to buy an adapter cable just so it would plug into the new mobo. then again, it was kinda a cheap one i bought at fryes about 3 years ago.
Hello
Well I doubt very much that in the time you are talking about it is getting hot enough to shut down like that.
I do not know if the power supply would cuase this if it is not SLI ready.
But from what I am reading here I would defently say/think it is the power supply.
More then likly it just do's not have enough juice to run everything.
How many watt's is it.
Did you try unplugging your case fans and see if it boots up.
Just to see if the power supply is just not cableable of running everything.
I would buy a new and better CPU
At this point you need one any way since it is not SLI ready and you are useing a adaptor to make it work.

I'd tend to agree with Hitman. What kind of video card do you have? Do you have only one or do you really have two in an SLI setup? Today's video cards are quite power hungry even if you only have one...
Also, be careful about the power supply specs. Peak power and sustained power are sometimes very different, and also maybe have a look at the amps provided on each rails (i.e. +3.3V, +5V, +12V) vs what your devices actually need. I believe the 3.3V line is critical for video cards (actually, that's true for almost everything that does not have a motor and is not the CPU). If any of the lines are underpowered, you will have problems, sometimes sneaky ones...
Or it could also be a failure in the power regulation circuit on the motherboard. The best would probably try another no-doubt-powerful-enough power supply in your PC to eliminate the PS from the equation.
the power supply is a 550watt unit. it was a no-brander i got at fryes about 3 years ago, so i wouldnt be supprised if that was it. i was planing on upgrading anyways, but i think ill just wait untill i can do the rest.=2 gigs memory, second video card(im just running one now) sata hard drives, duel core chip, water cooling, 21"flat screen. sooooo, im probably done for the season
