Since I have been asked the question a few times in the past week, I figure I should make the information available publicly.
The NAR rules specify that you are to have "no wheels outside the curbs", otherwise known as the "4-wheels on the track" rule(curbs being considered part of the track). That has been changed for the Euro division but it's still valid for the NA Divs, AFAIK (please tell me ASAP if I missed something).
If there is any discussion to be had about this, it should happen before the race.
Attached are a couple of examples of what is NOT ALLOWED, from the 2003 version of the NAR website (using F1 2002).

Not really, 2Fast. Technically, you're not allowed to have ANY wheel outside the white line if there is no curbing or ANY wheel outside the curb if there is curbing.
From what I have seen at other sites or in the NAR Euro division, the "2-wheels on the track" rule usually means that it is allowed to have 2 wheels on the grass and 2 wheels on the curbs. That is not acceptable in the North American divisions, you are never (still technically speaking) allowed to have any part the car outside the curbs.
BTW, generally speaking, the curbs are the usually white-and-color little bumps on trackside. Often there is some solid green (or other color) stuff past the curbs, that is considered off-track, not part of the official "curbs", no matter if it is on the inside or the outside of a turn. Of course, there are some places where the actual curbing has no white in it (as in Montreal, alongside the "Wall of Champions" (a.k.a. "Bonjour Quebec! wall", a.k.a "the exit of last turn") and it is "legal" curbing, but if in doubt, ask before the race.
If you happen to go too wide or to cut the track too much in qualifying, you are expected to forfeit your lap. If it happens in race, you are expected to lift for 2-3 seconds or similar to the time you may have gained. We are not completely strict about that (can't drive all laps perfectly or we would be racing real cars instead of simracing) but if you break the rule on almost every lap, a complaint will be filed. Similarly, it's VERY accepted to cut or go wide to prevent an accident AS LONG as you don't gain from it (as per FIA rules).

Thanks Bilbo, but for the difference of 2wheel from Euro and NA, i think it ok because anyway we are not on same mod. But i think that for next year, no difference in rules shoud be alowed, same rules for NA and Euro for 2006 shoud be respect since i hope we will be on same mod... We shoud stick togheter all along. But for now its not bad.

Sure Flow, I was just expressing my understanding of the North American NAR rules because I was asked about it a few times in the past week or so. I thought it a good moment to make sure everybody understood that rule because a) T1 at Hock is one of the most inviting/easiest places to exit wide, b) there have been some influx of new blood in both NA divs lately and c) an image is worth a thousand words...
As for next year, I'm not worrying about the rules yet as we don;t even know what game/series we will be using, although I fully agree that we should have only one mod/set of rules/server (if we can) for the whole league.

well, i would suggest that all members that now have rFactor set up a time to try a few races with as many members as possible to see how it goes. From what i can tell the net code is rock solid, so HOPEFULLY next year we can all race together again !!
I may be slow, but at least I'm consistantly slow !

Yes BIlbo, i cant beat my PB with 4 wheels on track
but im at .3 of it, hehe
I will buy rfactor somewhere this weekend or next week and i think that Xzwins also will do, i think. So we will be more and more to test, hehe.
I woud suggest 2 test Steve.
One with the host running the game
One with the host not in game, with the little server manager (as seen in the demo, dont know if the full game have the same thing) But the host cant run race in this test. but we can have 500fps on empty server instead of 50 with the 1st way.
So having a server open all day with the mod woud be cool. I know Bilbo will work on something like that on his spare computer, i think. But i will also have a computer PC available for that at my job, but will have to close it in day time, ony for evening, night and weekend.
Will find a solution...
