HAd some serious server issues.Kept on crashing for some reason and tried other hosts as well.I tried to get into brads server and it timed out. After that I was not able to log into any server again so I had to reinstall game.We may see a 100 megabit server soon though and that would solve these problems I think. It is hard to carry 15 to 20 people and not have any problems i think.Rfactor is good but you still need"more power scotty"...Hopefully we have that power soon.ALso some people had some prety high pings.Could just be the graphics set too high.Gotta remind people of that.If your connection is a little low.Just turn the graphics down before race.Simple fix for the problem.

What I first thought was my router acting up has now been confirmed as being my onboard NIC acting up (as I could connect to my router from my linux box).
While I did not have any problems with it since last race (which is why I still had a go at hosting), it has been acting up a lot last night, with total failure, sometimes for minutes, and then "fixing" itself. I was wary of onboard NICs before but thought it would work since I did not have any problems (up to last race), even when we had the 19-drivers server test with the Venezuelians...
I'll now put a trustable 3COM NIC in my PC (hopefully I can find one before next week) as those never let me down. Hopefully, I'll be able to host again next week.

Don't fear all on-board NICs, some are pretty decent! More expensive boards usually have a 3COM (T2000) or a RealTek (8110/8169) chip. Both are very decent gigabit chips. Don't be fooled by the RealTek name, their Gbit chip (8110/8169) is NOTHING like their crappy 100Mbit chip (8139).
nForce chipsets have built-in NICs that are decent as long as you have a good driver for it (only really available on Windows).
Before you go out and buy a new NIC, make absolutely sure the cable is good. Bad network cables are a pain in the butt and can cause problems similar to yours.

My 2 cents
Hello
Well what was feared has happened (Water under the bridge)
But we need to come up with a plan for this issue if and when it happens again. I here even on the Euro server guys are getting dropped but it is not knowen if it is the server connection the game or there own home connection. Be that as it may there needs to be a back up plan.
1. A back up host or 2
And these host need to be tested on how many drivers they can host and make sure they have the right settings.
2. If the Main host and the back up host can not host full grids then we might have to go back to 2 div.
sad to say but but just a thought.
Ok that being said
I want to test my connection hosting capabilitys.
But I need everyones help.
So at 5:00 pm
Monday 4-3-06 I will start up a server.
It will consist of 10 or 15 lap sprints and every 15 or so minutes I will start a new race (Hoping this will give everybody a chance to get in and test.
We Need everyones help for this so ask your friends and maybe some euro guys can help out.
Server name
NAR hosting test
Track Sapang since we have all tested there and don't need alot of practice so we can just race.
P/W test We need a password that way we do not get the guys coming in and out.

good idea. i want to test mine as well, so i have a server up right now for malaysia, no password. once hitman gets his up(about an hour from this post time) switch to his to test his connection. i did some speed tests today, and now im really confused. i had as high as 5347kb down, and 487 up to 1500kps down, and 214 up. so im trying my settings with 300 up, and 2500 down, see how that works.
well, someone has to be responsible and actually work! good point, i doubt we will get enough to make a meaningfull decision, part of why i left the password off, but then again testing with connections from people who will not be in the races(non nar members) probably is irrelevent. so i close the server, no one has come anyway.Flow wrote:im at job actualy.

OK so we're racing malaysia this weekend.
I would like to point out that for all who have practised on the new Australian track. It is definitely the best looking and highest fps track we have had in a while.I hope we race it still in the future as it is good eye candy. The track was very well done.On to Malaysia it is though.Lets make sure we have plenty of backup servers just in case though.

So far, the plan is for NA div. to re-run Malaysia from scratch this Sunday (9th) and continue with the normal calendar after this, so NA and Euro would be in synch again (i.e. everyone race Imola on the 23rd) and could continue to practice together.
The Australia GP would be raced later this season. Possible dates for this could be:
The Australia GP would be raced later this season. Possible dates for this could be:
- May 14th (Mother's Day), making it 3 back-to-back races with only 1 week in-between.
- June 18th (Father's Day), making it 4 back-to-back races.
- July 9th (inside summer break), 3 back-to-back races.
- July 30th (inside summer break)
- November 19th (end of season), before the race of champions (which can be moved back if needed)
- Any other date where we do not already race (keeping in mind the number of back-to-back races and trying to maximize driver participation).
