I was really dissapointed when my engine broke down. I made a great qualifying lap and got pole, and then made a solid start to retain my lead into T1 in the race.
I put in my best drive ever, note drive, not Race
I found an incredible rythm and was very consistent. I wanted to challenge myself to see how consistent I could be throughout the whole race, so I pushed hard even in my final stint to try making a 29 in the closing laps.
I shouldn't have done that obviously, but it was still good fun!
I've been thinking about why my engine broke down, and came to the conclusion that it couldn't have been a too aggressive cooler or boost setting. Ingo and I had the same, maximum coolers and 7/10 boost.
I think I had the wrong gearing for the fast sweepers after S1 and the following double right hander.
When heavily fueled, I stayed too long on the 5th gear in the sweepers, and on the 6th gear before the double right hander. As I got lighter, I could choose the 6th and 7th gears respectively before those turns without losing too much time.
So I have to be more careful if I want the points, now there's three retirements because of this and 30 points lost.
Tight in the championship though, and that's good.
Congrats to Pascal for a solid drive and win, although a litte bit shaky on the final lap
And a great second for Ingo!
See you in a Alonso-land
