Villeneuve just did great on his 1st days of Nascar. His team was able to get the hand on the number 27 for him, the number that Gilles Villeneuve had when he raced.

Villeneuve was impress by the speed of those monster. The team put him on track with a basic setup, hes was able to see were the car was having trouble, and was able to ask some correct change to the team, and telemetry said same as reported. The thing is that in race, they use the feeling of the driver to adjust the car. The driver gets what he ask for.

After 28 laps, he was -0.4 second behind Mike Skinner.

Hopefully, we Canadian may see a battle on track between Villeneuve and Carpentier, both from Quebec in an american series would just be fun. Villeneuve still didnt yet sign any contract, they were waiting the test day before any signature.

Villeneuve race is 1st Nascar Nextel race (car:Toyota). He qualif in 6th position, and since it was his race, and 5-10 drivers (not shure) are fighting for the Championship 1st place. So he decide on his own initiative to start from back on grid, and he finished in 21th position. At one time in race, he was even in 4th position. Seem that he was able to close the mouth of Jeff Gordon that said that it was a terrible idea to let Villeneuve race with them, at end of season, a tight championship, and that Villeneuve never raced a Nextel car untill that race. Villeneuve did great as i can read. I think there is around +/- 43 on grid at start.

I watched the race. He raced extremely conservative. He didn't really gain much actual experience IMO cause he never really diced around with anyone. But then again at least he didn't take out half the field either.

It will be interesting to see how he does compared to montoya. They asked franchitti if he thought he was ready to start the cup race and he said no way.

Now if we can only get Shumi in a cup car.

Another Quebec driver will race in Nascar Nextel next year (2008), Patrick Carpentier will race for the Nascar Team that is also the owner of our Montreal Hockey team 'Les Canadiens'. Patrick Carpentier is only waiting for the Nascar official to authorize him to race on oval track.
