No Aids Racing

I've had some spare time the last couple of days. That, coupled with my frustration from having crashed on the first lap, prompted me to play around some with video editing. I've done some video editing in the past, but never anything quite like this.

I've cut and pasted together a race video that is a little over 7 minutes long. I feel there is room for improvement when it comes to my editing and "directing", but it's at least watchable.

I'm encoding to several different formats so that everyone can choose what suits them best. If you have not installed any special codecs, your best bet is to download the VCD version. It should play on just about any modern computer without the need to install any additional software. The best picture quality-vs-size is #2 below (DivX 5 large), but it does require the computer to have the DivX codec installed (download here: http://www.divx.com).

Format 1: DivX 5 small
Video: DivX 5.0.3, 800kbit 2-pass, 432x288 pixels, 30fps
Audio: MP3, 128kbit

PS! The server is on a 100Mbit connection, but it usually tops out at around 50Mbit (because the machine itself is VERY slow).

In retrospect I should have used more camera angles and less repetition of the same scene, but I'm still happy with the result since it's only my first try. I'll do more of these videos in the future if I have the time. Just wish I had some more horsepower so I could use FRAPS (and do the rendering faster). I was rendering at just over 1fps in Adobe Premiere for the opening scene with the three simultaneous pictures. The fact that I did cropping, transforming, deinterlacing and alpha-channel mixing of three sources probably contributed to the slow speed. I need more power!!!

I'm also playing around a bit with 3D Studio MAX and Maya, but they are both very complex pieces of software. I'd like to do some rendered 3D titles for my next video, but it's not easy...

Damn!! Thats impressive!!

Well, what can I say...it was a hectic race =)
Lets hope A1 is clamer, at least for my nervs.

When I was catching tack and getting fastest lap (after pit stop) I killed my tyres, so I sat about 1 sec behind tack for many many laps. My pulse was over 180 the whole time! When tack went past TK it went up to 185, when I went past it went up to 200. The next few laps to the finish tack was closing on che and I was closing on tack. Pulse: 205.
Last lap three corners to go tack ran out of fuel right infront of me: 210. Next few corners to finish...HEART ATTACK!!!! One more lap El_Che and maybe we could have had a fight! But luckely the race was over cause I needed to rest my poor heart for A1!

Guys..I will try to get hold of a pulse meter and attach to next race..think my pulse is crazy too since i got a hemmorojd after Spain

Seriously I it would be fun to see the heartrate during race.

i would like to d/load the VCD and burn it so i can watch it on my Big screen:)

In that case you better download the SVCD version. Much better picture quality!

What software do you need to do that?

I used Adobe Premiere for all the editing. You can use any video editing package to do this type of stuff really, it's only a matter of how familiar you are with the software and how many advanced features you have at your disposal.

If you have a REALLY fast computer you can try Fraps ( http://www.fraps.com I think). I recorded the TV output from my videocard on my MiniDV camcorder and then transferred the data back over firewire when I did the video above. Crappy picture quality, but it doesn't require any extra CPU power.

There is no way of directly converting a Vcr into a video file (that I know of), so you will have to replay the Vcr in F1C and capture the sequances that are interesting.
