The developer was Papyrus and the publisher was Sierra (which became Vivendi). Hope that clears things up...

I own an original CD but I also happen to have a lawyer-disapproved copy (you know, as backup as this is now pretty much abandonware (it's not that old but definitely abandoned by the publisher)). That copy is said (not confirmed) to work on private servers (i.e. not using the Sierra lobby) but I don't know if it would work if more than one player uses a lawyer-disapproved cd-key on the same server or even if it would work at all (multiplayer-wise) with a widely propagated unofficial cd-key...

I think

Hello guys
I think I found it here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... s&n=468642
Let me know if this is the right one.

For some reason I highly doubt that they have a key code block on this game. In fact I don't know of any recent game that has it. Besides If you don't register it how would they know.

Well, they definitely check the cd-key and exe when you play on Sierra. My question was if they were validating when joining a private server. I know some games used to "call home" even if you were playing on a LAN...

If they are not checked and duplicate keys are "permitted" (relatively) then those who can't buy it/find it could use someone's widely distributed backup with the widely distributed key (if you see what I mean).

Hello
I see what you mean.
I never played on a Serria server so don't have a clue of what they do. It has always been a private server for me. And I have no clue about this game never played. It seems that it is or was very popular at one time when I did a search a lot of sites game up. So the info for this :?: could be found I will ask around not that we would do this (My Lawyer) say's this is a bad thing  but just to know because it is a intrustean :?:

Well I ordered mine yesterday should have it by the end of the week.
It was only 13 dollars with shipping I know we are again spending money but at least it is not breaking the bank and we are not in prison.

I wouldn't NEVER ( ) do anything illegal too as I have bought the original and even the NR2 + 4 + 2002 + 2003 editions, although I could never play them as much as I would have liked. It's just that this game is not necessarily the easiest to find nowadays and buying it used is likely to get you a banned cd-key, which may or may not be a problem depending on whether you plan to use the Sierra lobby or not...

Bilbo are you still in need of a copy of NR2003? If so I'll look next time im in the mall in the software store for a copy.

Not me (I have bought it when it came out) but I know there are a few people who may have difficulties getting it around here (Eastern Canada) nowadays...

Thanks for the offer, Aaron. 8)

one thing is for sure, you can NOT play through the Sierra servers with a no cd patch. It plays great offline with the no cd, but you get a message when trying to connect thru sierra

Hi all,

This game work fine with direct IP (I know because I was a NR2003 league driver). SO, why do you plan to use SIERRA ONLINE?

Ahhh cool! I wanted someone to confirm that for a long time (too lazy to try it myself). I know some people will be happy! 8)

The server will just have to post his IP here in the forums before the races...

It's been a long time since I ran this game (more than a year and half) but a little practice couldn't hurt.

If you're up for it, post your ip and/or server name and I'll try to join (not sure if I have to configure my firewall or not).

I'm not sure if I can host or not. Never was able to host the F1 game.
