Oh no! Does this mean I have to stop cheating? ;)
Well the relay client sofware worked well.
No extra lags or such issues as far as I could tell.
One catch is you may have to turn off any firewalls.
I had problems connecting with zone alarm running (even though the app had both client and server rights).
There should be a safe way to configure firewalls to let it pass but I haven't played with it yet.

The only problem i had today, was that when my msn in back ring me, my relay crash. But consider that i have a low end computer...

It does not have an uninstall and does not really need one. As per the readme file, it does not use the registry and you only have to delete the c:\relay directory to get rid of everything. It does not even put itself in the start menu...

I have got it to work past my firewall now. Went direct to RC and dl'ed the latest.

I dont think we have any cheats but if this gives us the peace of mind that all are on same field it will be good.

Still a second off the pace, will it make me faster.........lol

I just urge everyone to keep a lookout for any strange behaviour after installing relay. I may just be paranoid but my computer doesn't quite feel the same after I install it. Would be good to know before it becomes mandatory.

Hi,

It would be more helpfull if you exactly would discribe what "strange behaviour" occours. it would interest me as developer what happens.

A few note's:

-Relay is CERTIFIED spyware free software, you may read the full report here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/R ... ient.shtml

-There is only 1 known "issue" that might feel like "something is wrong":
This issue only occours when you connect trough relay and after you join a game. While "in game" and you MINIMIZE rfactor (by alt-tabbing) relay will start to use 50% or more CPU and your computer might feel a bit slow.

I would like to stress again that this issue ONLY occours when you MINIMIZE rfactor. If rfactor is normally running Relays CPU usage will drop to ZERO again.
This issue is also discribed in the readme file of Relay.

Relay will use zero cpu if running under normal circumstances.

Please please, if ANY questions left please contact me here in this forum or directly in the Relay client chat.

Thank you for your confidence and enjoy the exellent features of this Anticheat client software.

Yours,

My only point is the screen freeze?laggg hit now and then, im not sure if this is relay the track or my comp but rfctor doesnt normally blip like this.

I use the alt tab alot to check telemetry, now if my cpu goes up but im still talking to the game could this drag the bandwidth down as my cpu struggles to cope with no CPU.

not a techno phobe or a good driver, but the screen freeze is frustrating.

GPU is a 7800 amd 3000+ and a gig of ram.

any comments advise or suggestions will be appreciated, as im not keen to drive monaco with this issue unresolved. Any other track just not one with lots and lots of armco and walls and very interesting turns.

The Relay client doesn't work properly on Windows 2000 Server, so the Euro server will not use it for the Monaco race. (It eats all CPU no matter what I do, plus there are some other problems too.)

Frame hits are a common issue in multiplayer gaming. mostly caused by low budged(read low upload) connections of some players on the server. I can't find a reason why Relay should cause this. Once you have joined a server trough Relay client software the Relay client CPU priority will switch to "low priority" mode so it will give ANY other application priority above Relay.

The Relay client doesn't work properly on Windows 2000 Server, so the Euro server will not use it for the Monaco race. (It eats all CPU no matter what I do, plus there are some other problems too.)
Relay is untested on W2K, witch indeed may cause problems ( service pack 4 is installed ?) in hosting. However, this should not be a reason to not use Relay for the monaco race. The Relay server module has a feature to add static servers.Meaning: The server will be listed in the lobby but there is NO need to run client software on the euro-server.

For full cheat-protecion its only requiered that all clients are connected trough the Relay client software.

The server is fully patched (SP4 + every patch up to about 3 weeks ago).

Has there been any official announcement that we will or will not be using this in NA monaco before I bother installing it?

It is optional for Monaco. It will be activated on the NA server (as it is running Xp Pro) if you want to use it but you DON'T have to use it YET.

Well, strange behavior:

After first install of relay (a few months ago) my audio driver just went missing. Like it was never installed. This has never happened to me - ever. So I uninstalled relay and reformatted my c drive.

I was going to leave it at that until klaaz told me we where going to be using it in euro mandatory, so I reinstalled it.

After install my video mode went from 32 bpp to 16 bpp (for no reason) and eventually my control panel extention for the gfx card was gone. Something that again has never ever happened to me.

I monitored it during install in regmon and saw quite a few CreateKey entries (the QuieryKey where excessive!).

After uninstalling it I was watching with filemon and noticed the relay.exe name far too often for an uninstalled app. Ity was sought after by svchost, zone alarm and explorer.

I could understand the explorer bit since I had a relay readme in the recent documents. When I accessed the recent files filemon showed some kind of buffer overflow at the relay.ink.

Then I tried to klick it and actually got a BLUE SCREEN. Now I don't have to tell anyone this is more than a little strange.

Oh and one of the times I installed it it wanted to restart the system. Anything that needs to restart the system is going places it should not (I think).

So, I may just be paranoid. I haven't really looked at the details but I don't have time for it either.

Usually I just go with my gut feeling and format my system partition as soon as the computer starts acting strange.

Now if we are going to use relay in euro mandatory I will be using ghost and installing it on the Sundays before the race.

I mean no offense RC. I would not have brought any of this up if it where not talk of making it mandatory. Sorry to have to do it. I am sure the app means nothing malicious but still it feels like it is pokeing a bit too deep for my liking.

Hehe.. ok, I was just thinking maybe I was too hard. I mean what if it is just my system?

So I decide to kickstart filemon and play around with different apps to see if there are any traces of relay. I begin by opening notepad.exe.

I attached the filemon output.

I am really sorry but this is far too suspicious.
