Official NAR 2006 rules and procedures

Post by Bilbo »

RULES, REGULATIONS and PHILOSOPHY of the NAR league

NAR is based on simple rules: RESPECT, clean racing, no aids, no cheating, 2 wheels on track at all times and having fun.

NAR is using rFactor with the F1_Champions mod. All cars have equal performance. Everything you need can be found in the download section of this website.

Unless specified otherwise, the FIA rules apply.

At the time of writing this, the NAR admins are: Klaaz, Flow and Bilbo.

RULES and PROCEDURES

Reporting rules violations:

Any rules violation can/must be reported privately by anyone to an admin in the 2 days following a race. Please use Private Message (PM) at the forums to send violation reports. Include a description of the violation and the lap it happened on.

Any violation report posted publicly may be ignored. Please keep these private. Violations and penalties will be posted publicly by the admins as soon as possible after verification.

You are allowed and invited to denounce yourself if you know you violated a rule.

The admins reserve the right to review anyone's race replay without warning and call any violation found. Unfortunately, not everyone's race can be reviewed every time. This is not to be unfair, it's just because admins have a life too.

Qualifications:

NAR uses one lap qualifying. There is ONLY ONE try. Qualifying order is in reverse championship order, which means that the last drivers in the championship makes their qualifying lap first.

As soon as one driver goes on his hot lap, the next one will start from the pit. It will be a lot easier and faster if everyone know their current position in the championship so you know when it's your turn.

***** NO TALKING ALLOWED DURING QUALIFICATIONS. *****

The only one(s) allowed to talk during Qualifications are the server host and the supervisors and even then, it should be minimized or delayed while someone is on his/her hot lap.

Repeated chatting while someone is qualifying will be punished with -1 point from your championship total.

Race restarts:

There should be NO race restarts unless there are server problems or very exceptional circumstances.

If the server crashes before 50% of the race is completed, the race will be restarted. Drivers will start in the positions they had on the last lap before the server crashed. The number of laps left in the race will be as many as when the server crashed.

If the server crashes after 50% of the race is completed, then the race is over and official. Points will be given as usual.

Track cutting:

There have to be at least 2 wheels touching the track at all times.

The alternating white-and-color part of the curbs is considered part of the track, although this definition might be restricted and/or expanded for specific tracks. These will be posted before the specific events as needed.

A driver is allowed to cut a total number of corners equal to 5% (rounded up) of the number of total race laps. Any additional cutting will be penalised by 10 seconds PER INDIVIDUAL INFRACTION.

It is not allowed to pass outside the track. But it is allowed to take whatever action is necessary to prevent an accident. For example, if you're racing someone at Montreal at the chicane near the pit entrance and the guy in front spins in the chicane, you are allowed to cut to prevent the accident and continue your race unimpeded, but if he just brakes slightly earlier than you expected (or you just braked too late) while entering the chicane and you decide to cut and move around him to prevent a hit, there would be NO cutting penalty BUT you HAVE to let him pass you back at the first safe opportunity. Please understand the distinction between the two scenarios and don't be afraid to ask an administrator if there's any question about the nuances.

Hitting other cars:

No more drive-through penalties. Whatever a penalty is deserved, it will be applied after the race. Just continue with your race.

If you hit the car in front and he doesn't spin, do not pass him and you will not get a penalty. Repeated non-spin-inducing hits (3 times in a race, even if not against the same victim) is subject to penalty upon review of the race. Penalty is +30 seconds to race time. Abuse of this rule will make further non-spin-inducing hits be considered as spin-inducing hits, to the admin's judgement.

If you hit another driver from behind and he spins or lose control of his car (generally called spin-inducing hit), is NOT tolerated. Penalties are +30 seconds for first offense in a race, +60 seconds and a race under probation for the 2nd offense, +90 seconds and 2 races under probation for 3 offenses. Any further offenses will prompt a review of the violator's driving and could lead to race suspension.

LAG IS NOT AN EXCUSE. If you are having lag or seeing other cars lagging, it's YOUR problem and YOU have to deal with it and you MUST be careful.

Drivers under probation will have a tolerance of only 1 non-spin-inducing hit and 1 spin-inducing hit (subject to normal penalties). Any further infraction will be reviewed and judged by the admins and could lead to anything from time penalties to race suspension to league ban. Drivers under probation are expected to be extra careful so they do not repeat their previous errors.

Vengeance (or clearly deliberate) hits will NOT be tolerated under ANY circumstances. Penalties range from 5 races suspension to league exclusion, upon review by the admins. Don't do this.

Damage:

If you lose a wing (front or rear), you can only finish the lap that you're on. You either go into the pit and hope the pit crew can fix your car OR you go over the finish line and finish the race (if it is the last lap of the race). You may NOT put your car on the grass and wait for the leader's car to lap you and finish the race and then follow him.

You will be driving as fast as you can without being dangerous to yourself or other drivers.

Violation on these rules will be punished with DQ (disqualification) from the race.

Pit exit:

When you exit the pits, you HAVE to stay inside the pit line or you will be given a +20 seconds penalty (for each infraction) after the race.

Chat:

***** CHAT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED WHILE THE RACE IS GOING ON FOR ANYONE. This includes quick-chat too. *****

The only one(s) allowed to chat during the race are the server host and the supervisors and even then, it should be minimized as much as possible.

Penalty range is from -1 to -5 championship points.

Race day schedule: (all times are CET for Euro div. / EST for NA div.)

19:30 Server opens.
20:00 Driver's meeting and Qualifying session.
(After Qual.) Warm-up session (5-10 minutes or until 20:30)
(After Warm-up) Race session (not earlier than 20:30)

Race settings:

Aids: NONE
Race length: 100%
Weather: Sunny
Flag rules: Black only (which is actually more than just black flag)
Fuel usage: Normal
Tyre wear: Normal
Mech. failures: Normal
Fixed setups: No
Damage: 60%

Championship points:

The 8 top finishers of each race (after time penalties are applied) receive championship points. Respectively, from 1st to 8th position: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points.
Championship points can be lost due to penalties.

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS

Graphics:

- Don't be overoptimistic in this department. If you don't have a super strong machine, lower the graphics a little bit. AA, Shadows and special effects have a big impact on framerate.

- PLR file: If needed, lower the "Max visible vehicles" value to 10 or 8. That should help your framerate on the starts.

Multiplayer:

- Set your connection type to "Custom" and set your upload/download speed to about 10% to 25% less than your connection's theorical speed. For example, on a stable cable connection rated as 5.1Mbps/800kbps (down/up), you could use 4600/720 as download/upload. DSL users may have to use lower values, depending on the true speed they get (there are speed tests on many sites, very likely your ISP has one too, you may want to use 10% from those test results).

- NO 56K (OR LESS) MODEMS ALLOWED.

Those are the rules that will be used for the Bahrain race. There could be some modifications to these in the near future.

Major changes include the track cutting rules and the hitting another car rules (no more drive-through).

The restart rules is likely to change in the future but lack of a clear agreement between the admins in time for the race made us stay with statu quo (last season's no restarts rule).

Rules update

Post by Bilbo »

Here are some modifications to the rules. These will be in effect for the France race next Sunday and replace the corresponding rule above. The changes mostly affect how time penalties are applied and chances to autopenalize yourself to prevent being penalized after the race have been added. Changes/additions are highlighted in red. Please, no discussions or questions in this thread (start another one if there's not one already).

Pit exit:

When you exit the pits, you HAVE to stay inside the pit exit line or you will be given a 20 seconds penalty (for each infraction) after the race. Time penalties are to be applied according to the "time penalties" rule.

You have the chance to autopenalize yourself by doing a drive-through within the next 3 laps or before the end of the race (whichever happens first). Not doing it, for any reason, means that you accept the time penality.

Track cutting:

There have to be at least 2 wheels touching the track AT ALL TIMES.

The alternating white-and-color part of the curbs is considered part of the track, although this definition might be restricted and/or expanded for specific tracks. These will be posted before the specific events if needed.

A driver is allowed to cut a total number of corners equal to 5% (rounded up) of the number of total race laps. Any additional cutting will be penalised with a time penalty of 10 seconds per infraction, to be applied according to the "time penalties" rule.

You can autopenalize for a cut by CLEARLY lifting off the gas pedal at the exit of that turn (or first safe opportunity), enough for it to be noticed in the replay (suggestion is 1 full second). Replay fidelity not being perfect in this, if you don't lift clearly enough, you can still be penalized. The choice is yours but even a "long" 1 (even 2) full second lift is still much less penalizing than the 10 seconds penalty you risk getting otherwise. Because of this, there will be NO discussion about things like "I got off the throttle but it's not apparent on the replay". It is the driver's responsibility to make it evident enough and to do it safely.

Time penalties:

All time penalties for a driver are added together and applied according to this table:

Level 1: 30 seconds or less: time penalties added to driver's last race lap time (which means you can't lose a lap due to the penalty).
Level 2: >30 seconds to 60 seconds : same as level 1 OR loss of 1 position, whichever "hurts" more.
Level 3: >60 seconds to 90 seconds : same as level 1 OR loss of 3 positions, whichever "hurts" more.
Level 4: >90 seconds and more : If classified, the driver is moved to last of the CLASSIFIED drivers (FIA 90% race completion rule). If the driver finished as unclassified (outside the 90%), he keeps his position. Any driver punished at this level also receives one race or more of probation.

If multiple classified drivers get "level 4" penalties, they are sorted according to their original finishing order and race time with level 1 penalties applied.
