Earlier today while I was away from the computer, the RAID-1 volume on the server that holds the web directories (and a few other things) crashed. The computer reported parity errors on both discs that make up the RAID-1 volume and promptly shut down the volume, preventing the web server from accessing its files.
I have rebooted the computer and re-initialized the RAID-1 volume without any error messages. I do not know what caused this problem. It could have been a fluke power surge, a real hardware problem or a problem with the software drivers for the SCSI-card. Either way it could happen again. Everything of importance is however backed up to tape regularly, so even if the discs are about to die we should not loose any more than two days worth of data at most (backup every second day).
I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused!
/Daniel
