Website update

Post by Bilbo »

The NAR website has been updated.

All the stats, including the 2005 personal stats, are now completely dynamic, which means that they can be updated in the minutes after a race (actually, a couple of seconds after me or Flow have entered the results in the database).

If you have trouble with this new version, make sure you have flushed your browser cache(s) before complaining. If you have REAL troubles that you did not have with the previous version, please send me a PM here with a description of what is happening (or not).

This may not mean much to most people, but those modifications are gonna save many hours of website maintenance for Flow, not counting that the personal stats will always be current.

If you have a paranoid firewall, you will maybe notice the SWF making extra requests back to the website. That is perfectly normal, it is fetching the lastest results from the site, "live". If you block those requests, then all the stats shown will be bogus and meaningless.

Thanks Bilbo, you spent many hour to same me many hours, lol. At leat we wont need to wait few days before updating. Now it will be done once, and no cut and paste that can create mistake.

Im sorry steve for FireFox, the problem is still existing. I take few minutes someday to go back and read if they found a way to fix that problem.

Well if you want to fix the firefox problem.Just download netscape..LOL...it has all the plugins and such already.I tried using firefox because my buddy said it was the in thing...wrong.it sux..I downloaded the new netscape and have had no problems whatsoever.I used to use netscape years ago and then just used the internet explorer cuz it was there when i formatted.True firefox has all sorts of cool skins and such.At least netscape has the plugins installed instead of waiting for firefox to download em.Tab browsing in both netscape and firefox and good security in both as well.To each his own I guess..LOL>...

You're welcome guys. For my part, I figured it was a shame to have this professionally designed website with outdated stats, although I understand perfectly the amount of work involved in maintaining it. That's why I coaxed Flow into letting me "play" with the website between the last races.

I'm sure he will appreciate it more as the season goes on, it's only sad this has to come so late but most of what I have done should be reusable for next season even if we change the number of divs, pilots and things like that. That's what over 12 years of professionnal programming does for you (including exactly 0 experience programming Flash/ActionScript  although that was another reason why I wanted to do it ).

So it make 24 years (12+12) of experience, lol but mine is not in programming but design, hehe. Nice to see NAR have a good mixt.

We are doing front visible stuff, but we need clap our hand to eatch other for being here and having fun. Support and apreciation from all drivers is pushing eatch other to keep this fun familly reunion of F1 maniac stick toghetter. Thanks to all for supporting NAR. 8)

Thanks F1motion.

What is interesting is the web site is not complete yet. Many thing need to be added and adjust. these few month, i didnt have any time to go further on the completion of the design, cause i tought that the 2006 season woud needed so many change. But talking with Bilbo, i think that not many change will be needed.

Since Bilbo spent many hours to make the web site update on himself, writing once the info, instead of writing all the single number manualy and copy and paste and calculate all position of championship. That was taking around few hours per race, not counting the update info of new/changing driver.

I touhgt that a html site woud be easyer to update info automaticaly. With Bilbo experience in programming and my knowledge of Flash site, we found that from a sofware built by Bilbo and exporting a simple text file, all can be add on website automaticaly (explaination to make it simple)

From now, as soon il have time, i will just upgrade part of the web site.
I have the written autorisation to use 3 nice pictures of real F1 car into the NAR web site. Paul-Henri let me use for NAR those picture that i request for him, and its free of usage for website only.

I'm also working on a request of a perfect song that coud be put with an intro animation to a major music group, but its kind of complicated to reach those people. I hope il have a writen autorisation untill this season ends up. Trust me, the song woud fits perfectly. If i have a negative awnser, il let you know guys from whos the song.

Up to now, the site is not use at his maximum of possibility, we still dont have an intro and no sound effect on button, no nar member list since the begining of NAR, no little video clip for eatch team, chronos till next race and so, and so many little things taht will complete the site, many things that will make our web site look like we spent XX,XXX$ on it, lol  for free. Im personnaly jalous, i dont even have time to finish my own company personnal web site, hihi ( http://www.akro.ca ).

K, time to go back to work, cya later all
