F1 back to Montreal

Post by Flow »

MONTREAL -- Bernie Ecclestone says Formula One will return to Montreal next season (in 2010).

The Canadian Grand Prix was taken off the F1 calendar this year after a contractual dispute. But Ecclestone, the head of the F1 circuit, said in today's edition of Motorsport Aktuell magazine that "we'll be driving in Montreal again in 2010." He said Montreal was "a fun weekend, a party weekend" for F1 drivers and teams. "And the race was always exciting.

From what we can read here (from one of our newspaper LaPresse) Government of canada + Governement of Québec + Montréal city + Tourism Montréal will be partner with Bernie Ecclestone and they will touch 30% from tickets sale and local publicity.

As it seems from what I read Bernie is getting a lot of heat from the car manufacturers and from his boss (CVC) to put MONTREAL
back on the calendar for 2010 and beyond.

Seems like a Canadian GP return is inevitably. Ecclestone is hard to read but I guess he is still playing hard-to-get.

When I was in Paris some two weeks ago I met some Canadians from Montreal. I told them that me and my girlfriend are huge F1 fans and we wanted to see the Villenueve track back on the calendar. They couldn't agree more. They also said that the atmosphere is so intense and the grand stands are always filled up even on fridays during practice sessions. That sounded amazing to me. I hope it will be back ASAP. I really like the track.

YAY!! Gilles Villenueve track is back! It’s an 18 race calendar and it starts with Bahrain because Australia needs to be scheduled for a date after the clocks go forward to shorten up the time difference and make the race time in Europe later.

Strange to see Silverstone gone and Donington there instead.

March 14 – Bahrain (Sakhir)
March 28 – Australia (Melbourne)
April 4 – Malaysia (Sepang)
April 25 – Turkey (Istanbul)
May 9 – Spain (Barcelona)
May 23 – Monaco (Monte Carlo)
June 6 – Canada (Montreal)
June 27 – Europe (Valencia)
July 11 – Great Britain (Donington)
July 25 – Germany (Hockenheim)
August 1 – Hungary (Budapest)
August 22 – Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps)
September 5 – Italy (Monza)
September 19 – China (Shanghai)
September 26 – Singapore (Singapore)
October 10 – Japan (Suzuka)
October 24 – Brazil (Interlagos)
November 7 – Abu Dhabi (Yas Marina)

Anyway, its 99% official, official annoncement to be done.

Official source say that they are proud to say that we will have the official announcement about having back F1 to Montreal. It is sign, but govement want to hold the anouncement... we are going to be in election in few weeks, they probably want to put that in their CV to buy some vote.

Montreal race organisers have reportedly been given ten days to decide whether to host a Canadian Formula One Grand Prix next year.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has only a provisional date on the 2010 calendar, and the Canadian publisher Sun Media said Formula 1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone is losing patience with the stalling talks. When I come back from Japan next week, I'm going to need final answers to all of our questions, the 78-year-old Briton said from Suzuka. If I don't have them, there won't be a Grand Prix in Montreal. After the popular and important North American date was missing from this year's World Championship, it was believed that a commercial dispute had been solved and that arms of government had stepped in to ensure a Canadian race for 2010.Ecclestone revealed: We're still trying to reach (an agreement).I'm no longer very confident. We have waited to have all of the answers. We can't wait much longer.

You could always take a 4 hours(?) flight to Montreal IF F1 comes back!

(Actually, it's sad that nobody wants to tell why the contract is not signed yet as the financial question is supposed to have been settled for weeks now... )

Well, now that the electoral season is officially going, I fail to see what's the point in holding back at the municipal level. Even worse, if the federal government is thrown down before the contract is signed, it could ruin everything! Actually, it could be THEM delaying things out just to stay in power for a bit longer!

Ha! Ah! now we know why it takes so long, Ecclestone dont want to pay any Tax to Canada on his income... but law are law, and if they want to let F1 come, they will have to make a breach in the law to let him not pay any Tax... :|
