rFactor 1 on Steam

Post by Bilbo »

For those interested, rFactor 1 is now available on Steam (yes, almost 10 years after the original release!).

For those who have already bought the game pre-Steam (i.e. all of us!), you can get a free Steam key for the game from ISI: http://rf1comm.rfactor.net/purchase/get_steam_key.php

Click here to go to the original announcement from ISI.

It does work, I've got my Steam key already.

What is the reasoning for this. Is it just a server for rFactor?

Well, it's mostly a test to gauge the pertinence of moving rF2 (or rF3?) to Steam in the future and a way to get more exposure and some new sales for this old product (I've never met anyone IRL who had even heard about rFactor except for a couple who had already bought it so the extra visibility can't hurt). Many old games are getting the Steam treatment these days.

They did make some improvements to the Steam version of Rfactor though, including supporting more controllers and buttons, the "4GB fix" needed for some mods and adding Achievements among others. Servers are also now advertised on Steam's own server browser (in addition to the normal in-game browser) making it easier than ever to find a server. Finally, Steam is a very easy and reliable source if you need to download the game again for a reinstall. And the Steam version is supposed to be 100% compatible with the non-Steam version so one version can play with the other version online without any problem.

What would be extremely good in the future is integration with the Steam Workshop for easy mod installations but I don't see that happening due to all the trademark, copyright and "stolen" stuff issues.

Hey limpindog.
Nice to see your still around.
I have been playing both rf1 and rf2.
Didn't know it was on steam till Bilbo mentioned it.
Rf1 is still a great game even after so many years.
Never got tired of the Megane series .
Hope to see you guys online sometime.

Hope you boys in the east got to see it first hand.
Wanted to make the trip over this year but the wife wants to go to Rome for some stupid reason.
"why the hell would you want to go to Rome"i said"They were just a bunch of assholes anyway"..

Carreraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,

Great to see you.
LMAO!!!
Ya that would be the wrong answer to say to a woman wanting to go to Paris....

Montreal was a great race. I wanted to go as well but a lot going on here. I lost my mom last December day before my birthday
and have many things to take care of.
I am still hoping that one day we can all meet at an F1 race in Montreal, if I remember Bilbo was going to supply the accommodations lol

Hope all is well with everyone wish we were still racing together.
